Culture acts as the social fabric: CAE North Satellite BEYOND in Riga

Earlier in April (16-17th), NDPC co-organised the CAE North Satellite BEYOND Riga conference. A conference where the conditions of the working life of artists active in the Baltics, Nordics, UK and Ireland were in focus.

The panel discussions, workshops, and free-flow discussion groups ranged from large-scale cultural policy impact to the practicalities of being an artist today. Some of the topics brought up were how to create when faced with political pressures, fair practice across borders, participation in the arts for disabled artists, and identifying emerging signals within the cultural field.
The opportunity to listen to working artists discuss their navigation of uncertain times was inspiring, and the NDPC team, with all the European partners involved in the production of this event, is curious to see what comes next for the participants!

“Culture acts as the social fabric that holds societies together. Culture is not an accessory to society — it is society.” – from the keynote of Kristin Danielsen, CEO Nordic Culture Fund
