Mapping Exercise: How Could Creative Industries Foster Innovation in Tourism in the Northern Dimension Area?

In their study, Terry Sandell and Lila Skarveli review the interaction between tourism and creative industries in 11 NDPC countries.

Their report focuses on an analysis of the development of tourism and creative industries and examples of good practice, while also providing recommendations for productive and sustainable cooperation between the two sectors in the Northern Dimension Partnership countries: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden.

The researchers emphasise that the tourism industry and creative industries have many features in common: both sectors are fragmented, dynamic and dominated by small, medium-sized and micro-enterprises. In the case of successful cooperation, the tourism and creative industries complement each other effectively, but there has not been much of an attempt to bring professionals from the creative and tourism industries together through sectoral policies or support instruments.

Country reports that have been produced are based on extensive consultations and research involving a wide range of industry actors.

This project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the PROMAN Consortium.
