Future Cities Platform: Co-creating the future of cities through culture and civic participation
The Future Cities Platform brings together the achievements of successful EU projects—such as Cultural Pearls, Liveability, CCI4Change, NEB-STAR or EDITUA—that have tested new ways of involving citizens, using culture, creativity and design to strengthen resilience and improving neighbourhoods through co-creation.
Across the Baltic Sea Region, small and medium-sized cities face growing pressure to respond to climate change, rebuild social cohesion and maintain trust in public institutions—often with limited staff and resources.
Future Cities supports local public authorities and NGOs in working in more participatory, creative and people-centred ways by making tested tools and methods from previous projects easier to access and use.
By consolidating the results of 12 projects, Future Cities brings together existing knowledge and experiences into shared resources for cities and civil society organisations across the Baltic Sea Region.
Four key outputs
The platform will develop:
- The Future Cities Playbook – a practical guide to creating a shared vision for a city and turning it into concrete action.
- A portfolio of tested tools for cultural and participatory work.
- Peer-learning opportunities and an online learning community connecting cities and NGOs across the region.
- A policy brief highlighting why culture and creativity should be seen as strategic investments in resilience and liveability.

Funding
The total budget of the Future Cities project is €1.00 million, of which €0.73 million is funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme.
