Outputs of the “CircularPlace: Culture and Creative Industries, Circular Economy and Place” project
We’re glad to announce the successful completion of the “CircularPlace: Culture and Creative Industries, Circular Economy, and Place” project, supported by Interreg Baltic Sea Seed Money.
This project aimed to explore how the intersection of culture, creative industries, and the circular economy can drive the Baltic Sea Region’s (BSR) shift towards a sustainable, circular model of production and consumption. We believe that achieving a circular economy requires more than policy changes; it must actively engage consumers and citizens as co-creators. The culture and creative sectors have both the economic influence and societal reach needed to drive this change.
Project Collaboration and Timeline
Led by the Danish Cultural Institute (Denmark) with partners including Goethe-Institut (Germany), Northern Dimension Partnership for Culture Secretariat (Latvia), Let’s Do It World NGO (Estonia), and Pomorskie Voivodeship (Poland), the project ran from October 2020 to September 2021.
Mapping Study and State-of-Play Report
To build a foundation for sustainable practices, project partners conducted a comprehensive mapping study across all BSR countries. This study, involving strategic document analysis and interviews with key players, explored how each country approaches the interlinked fields of circular economy, culture, and place-making.
As these fields are emerging and evolving, our research highlighted ongoing challenges in defining terms and concepts consistently across different languages in the BSR. Despite these complexities, our final State-of-Play Report provides a valuable overview of the region’s current status and insights specific to each BSR country.
Stakeholder Engagement and Workshop Discussions
The findings from the State-of-Play Report were presented and discussed with stakeholders from most BSR countries during an online workshop in September 2021. This workshop fostered cross-border dialogue and laid the groundwork for continued collaboration and understanding in these crucial fields.
