The Northern Dimension (ND) is a joint policy of four equal partners: the European Union (EU), the Russian Federation (suspended*), Norway, and Iceland. It was initiated in 1999 and renewed in 2006.
The ND policy aims at supporting stability, well-being and sustainable development in the region through practical cooperation.
The NDPC is the fourth Partnership in the Northern Dimension Policy, other partnerships include:
- The Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership;
- The Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-being;
- The Northern Dimension Partnership on Transport and Logistics.
The structure, nature and tasks of these partnerships vary from project-centred financing to expert-oriented cooperation.
